MIRA Collects MVR 2.92 Billion in June 2026

13 Jul 2026

MIRA collected a total of MVR 2.92 billion in revenue during June 2026. This amount was 14.7% higher than the revenue projected for the month and 10.1% higher than the revenue collected in June 2025.

According to MIRA, the revenue exceeded the June 2026 forecast mainly because of higher collections from Goods and Services Tax (GST), Bank Income Tax, Green Tax, and airport taxes and fees. Revenue from tourism-related sources also increased as tourist arrivals in May 2026 were 1.7% higher than projected. In addition, one-off receipts from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Fee, fees for extending resort lease periods, and land sale and land transfer fees also contributed to the increase in revenue. MIRA further stated that 14.3% of the total revenue collected in June came from the settlement of outstanding dues from previous periods, while 23.4% resulted from efforts to recover unpaid taxes and other outstanding amounts.

Compared with June 2025, the increase in revenue was mainly driven by higher collections from GST, Bank Income Tax, and taxes imposed on companies and other non-individual entities. Bank Income Tax revenue increased because advance payments were made before the due date and taxpayers liable for the 2025 Bank Income Tax settled their payments on time. Tourism-related revenue also increased, as tourist arrivals in May 2026 were 1.5% higher than in May 2025.

As part of its efforts to recover unpaid taxes and other outstanding payments, MIRA recovered a total of MVR 465 million during June 2026. This amount included MVR 286 million collected through notices issued to taxpayers, MVR 79 million through dues clearance, MVR 72 million through installment payment agreements, MVR 26 million through reminder phone calls encouraging taxpayers to settle their liabilities, MVR 0.5 million through enforcement under the Action Policy, and MVR 0.7 million through bank account freezes.

The largest source of revenue collected in June 2026 was Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST), which accounted for 37.2% of total revenue, amounting to approximately MVR 1.08 billion. The second-largest source was Income Tax, contributing 27.4% or MVR 799 million. Other major sources of revenue included resort rent, which generated MVR 411 million (14.1%), Green Tax, which generated MVR 157 million (5.4%), the Airport Development Fee, which generated MVR 135 million (4.6%), and Departure Tax, which generated MVR 134 million (4.6%).

The total revenue collected during June 2026 also included USD 118.60 million.
