MIRA Collects MVR 2.63 Billion in April 2026

11 May 2026

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) collected a total revenue of MVR 2.63 billion in April 2026. This amount was 16.6% higher than the revenue estimated for April 2026, although it was 0.3% lower compared to the revenue collected during the same period last year.

The main reasons for the increase above projections were higher collections from Tourism land Rent , GST, and work permit fees. MIRA also stated that 32.6% of the revenue collected in April 2026 came from payments of overdue amounts, while 14.2% was generated through efforts to recover unpaid dues. Due to ongoing global conflicts, tourist arrivals to the Maldives declined, which was expected to reduce GST revenue. As a result, previous forecasts for tourist arrivals were revised downward.

According to MIRA, compared to April 2025, the decline in revenue in April 2026 was mainly due to lower collections from tourism sector GST, Green Tax, airport taxes, and related fees. Tourist arrivals in April 2026 fell by 19.8% compared to April 2025, contributing to the decrease in tourism-related revenue. In addition, revenue from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fees also declined compared to the previous year.

During April 2026, MIRA recovered a total of MVR 543 million through efforts to collect outstanding payments. This included MVR 372 million recovered through notices, MVR 96 million through dues clearance, MVR 64 million through installment agreements, MVR 5 million through reminder phone calls made to taxpayers, and MVR 4 million collected under action policies.

The largest share of revenue collected in April 2026 came from GST, which accounted for 63.6% of the total revenue, or MVR 1.7 billion. The second largest source of revenue was Green Tax, contributing 7.1% or MVR 185 million. In addition, MVR 178 million (6.8%) was collected as income tax, MVR 152 million (5.8%) as Airport Development Fee, another MVR 152 million (5.8%) as Departure Tax, and MVR 129 million (4.9%) from resort rent. The total revenue collected in April 2026 also included USD 121 million.
