MIRA Launches Maldives Guest Information System (MGIS)

01 Oct 2026
As part of ongoing efforts to provide more convenient services to taxpayers, the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has officially launched the Maldives Guest Information System (MGIS). The system was inaugurated today at a special ceremony by the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Mr. Hassan Zareer.

With the implementation of MGIS, all Green Tax (GRT) registrants are required to submit guest information through the system. Information submitted through MGIS will be used for the administration of Green Tax and to generate the Green Tax information sheet in MIRAconnect. This new arrangement will significantly simplify reporting obligations for tourist establishments.

Accordingly, all Green Tax registrants are required to upload complete and accurate guest information to MGIS in accordance with the timelines specified below:

  • For taxable periods commencing on or after 1 November 2026, resorts, hotels, and guesthouses with a room capacity of 50 rooms and above must begin reporting through MGIS by uploading guest information no later than 15 December 2026. In addition, these establishments are required to complete system integration with MGIS by 1 January 2027.
  • For taxable periods commencing on or after 1 January 2027, all other green tax registrants will be required to report information by no later than 15 February 2027. Furthermore, they are required to complete system integration with MGIS by 1 April 2027.

The introduction of MGIS does not change the existing deadlines for filing and paying Green Tax. Green Tax returns and payments will continue to be submitted through MIRAconnect. However, once information has been reported through MGIS, taxpayers will no longer be required to upload a separate guest information sheet together with their Green Tax Return. Instead, the information reported through MGIS will be used to pre-fill the guest information section of the Green Tax Return upon submission.
