MIRA collected MVR 2.80 billion as revenue in February 2026 was. This is a decrement of 0.8% compared to the revenue collected during the same period last year. In addition, it is 11.6% lower than the estimated revenue for January 2026.
When comparing the revenue received in February 2026 with that of February 2025, the main reason for the decrement is the lower revenue received from Lease Period Extension Fees, Airport Development Fees, and Tourism Land Rent. Furthermore, another reason for the decrease compared to February 2025 is that the tax due dates for the month of February coincided with public holidays, which resulted in the deadlines being extended to days in March. However, advance payments made in February 2026 were higher compared to February 2025.
The main reason why the revenue was 11.6% lower than the estimated amount for January 2026 is the decrease in GST collections. In addition, lower revenue from Airport Taxes and Fees as well as Green Tax also contributed to the decrease in revenue during this period. Out of the revenue collected in January 2026, 19.0% consisted of payments made for previous outstanding dues, while 16.9% was collected through efforts made to recover unpaid amounts.
In January 2026, MIRA recovered a total of MVR 398.88 million through efforts to collect outstanding payments. From this amount, MVR 155.84 million was recovered through dues clearance. Additionally, MVR 5.21 million was collected by freezing taxpayers’ bank accounts, MVR 34.44 million was collected through phone calls made to remind taxpayers to settle their payments, and MVR 60.6 million was collected through installment payment agreements.
In February 2026, the largest share of revenue collected by MIRA came from GST, which accounted for 52.3% or MVR 1.4 billion. The second largest source of revenue was income tax, which accounted for 21.4% or MVR 599.2 million. In addition, MVR 200.36 million (7.2%) was collected as Green Tax, MVR 134.33 million (4.8%) as Departure Tax, MVR 122.56 million as Airport Development Fee, and MVR 196.34 million (3.3%) as Lease Period Extension Fee.
Out of the revenue collected in January 2026, USD 126.85 million was received in US dollars.
