MIRA collects MVR 1.79 billion as revenue in January 2021

MIRA collected MVR 1.79 billion as revenue in January 2021. This is a decrease of 1.2% compared to the same period last year.

The collection is lower than January 2020 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The decrease in tourist arrivals, resulting in decline in economic activity and tax collection from tourism sector, lead to the decline in collection of major taxes such as Green Tax and Airport Development Fee. However, with the gradual recovery of the Tourism Sector, collection from TGST appears to be increasing.

The greatest share of the revenue collected for January 2021 was from Income Tax with MVR 777.46 million or 43.4% of total revenue. The second largest contributor was GST (MVR 734.60 million or 41.0%). Other significant contributors include Green Tax (MVR 57.35 million or 3.2%), Tourism Land Rent (MVR 52.34 million or 2.9%), BPT (MVR 45.57 million or 2.5%) and other taxes and fees (MVR 123.35 or 6.9%).

Out of the revenue collected in January 2021, USD 46.01 million constitutes the dollar collection.
