Green Tax charged starting tomorrow

Pursuant to the sixth amendment to the Maldives Tourism Act, Green Tax is to be charged effective 00:00 hours tonight. The tax is to be collected starting 1 November 2015 pursuant to this Amendment upon its ratification by the President on 17 December 2014.

Green tax is to be charged from tourists staying at tourist resorts, tourist hotels and tourist vessels at the rate of $6 per day of stay. The deadline to file the tax return and make payment of this tax is the 28th of the following month.

With the introduction of Green Tax, MIRA has been conducting various awareness programs to provide the Green Tax liable businesses with the information on Green Tax. In addition to the seminar on Green Tax held on 13 October 2015 MIRA plans on conducting more of such information sessions on Green Tax every day. More information on Green Tax is available from MIRA’s website, and provided via TV and radio programs too. MIRA requests taxpayers to clarify their doubts either by calling hotline 1415.
