The MIRA enters into an MOU with the Department of Immigration and Emigration (11 June 2012)

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has entered into its first Memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a Government Institution today. This MOU was signed between the MIRA and the Department of Immigration and Emigration for the exchange of information between the two Institutions.

The MOU was an eminent step to faciliate in acquiring relevant information available from the Department of Immigration and Emigration through a systematic mechanism for the audit, assessment and investigations carried out by the MIRA. It also endows the effective enforcement of Laws administered by the two Institutions in order to reduce tax and immigration related offences by exchanging information between the two Institutions.

The MOU was signed today at 1430 hrs in a ceremony held to mark the occasion, with the Commissioner General of Taxation, Mohamed Yazeed signing on behalf of the MIRA and Mohamed Ali signing on behalf of Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Arrangements on formulation of other such Agreements with other Institutions in the near future is in progress.
