MIRA to celebrate a ‘Tax Week’

MIRA celebrates a ‘Tax Week’ to increase awareness of taxpayers and general public of the tax system in the Maldives. One of the main objectives of this tax week is to remind taxpayers of the upcoming GST and BPT deadlines.

All individuals doing business in the Maldives and those whose accounting period ended on 31 December 2012 will have to file their BPT Return for 2012 and make their final payment by 30 June 2013. The deadline for taxpayers to file their Statement of First Interim payment and settle their first interim payment is 31 July 2013. Additionally, the deadline for submission of GST return for June 2013 and second quarter of 2013 is 28 July 2013.

The ‘Tax Week’ is to be held from 15 June 2013 to 21 June 2013. The activities planned for the ‘Tax Week’ include launching a drawing and essay competition for school children, information tents across Male’ and a ‘MIRA Open Day’. The purpose of holding a ‘MIRA Open Day’ is to provide information on services at MIRA and employment opportunities at MIRA. In addition, on the last day of ‘Tax Week’ a MIRA Walk and roadshow is also to be held.
