MIRA signed the Tax for SDGs Country Engagement Plan with UNDP and Ministry of Finance

MIRA has signed a Cooperation Agreement with UNDP and Ministry of Finance to initiate the Tax for SDGs program.

The program launch was held today and participants from UNDP, Ministry of Finance and MIRA joined the event. During the program launch, Commissioner General of Taxation, Mr. Fathuhulla Jameel highlighted that this program is particularly critical for Maldives as it examines emerging issues like taxation of digitalized and globalized economy, gender-based taxation and taxation of the informal sector. Commissioner also highlighted the support UNDP is providing to countries in broadening fiscal space and leveraging innovative solutions to achieve economic goals and combat taxation issues.

Tax for SDGs program integrates national and regional taxation priorities and fosters systemic reforms and institutional development. MIRA has targeted to focus on two main areas under this program which includes establishing a data governance framework to achieve tax digitalization goals and developing the enterprise risk management framework and business continuity plan.

The program is planned for a period of 2 years.
